Why does it cost me money to receive a text message? I should not have to pay for something that I did not initiate. I get spam SMS messages every month and it really is something I don’t like. I like it even less because I am paying for each one of them (I know I can call my operator and complain but that’s a huge hassle). The same should be true for incoming calls. You don’t pay for incoming land line calls. Imagine the outcry if you had to pay for every telemarketing call you received on your landline. Why do we accept this? Europe (and other places perhaps) have it right in this area. And further I think it actually promotes cell phone use. It means you can afford to always leave your pre-paid mobile on. You can always be reached. And I have to believe that you will want to communicate out-bound as well when you are getting calls/texts.
Anyway, it just seems anti-consumer to charge for something that I don’t initiate. I don’t pay for junk mail in my mailbox. Why should I pay when someone else calls or texts me?
